Wildflowers

A walk through the woods gave me a few surprise wildflowers. The summer heat has produced blooms everywhere as well as an little rabbits running around. All of the colors were so bright. I am not sure what most of these are, but they are everywhere.  I ended the walk with a little bit of a shock.  I found something in the bird house that was a little odd.  The birdhouse is on a pole around 15 feet tall.  It was full of babies last month.  Now it is full of something a little different. A snake had climbed all the way up, made a little home and waited a few days until it was time to shed his skin.  We never saw the snake.  He has been hiding around in the same area for weeks only leaving a little evidence of his presence. 

The hot weather is making all of the plants happy.  My little monster is not in the best of moods.  He has been fighting an earache for the past few days.  To top it off the Dr. said said not swimming for seven days.  So I reluctantly put up the sprinkler for use later on in the summer.  We loaded up on movies and things to bake for the next week.  early in the mornings or late in the afternoon we will go out to water our plants and watch the birds.  So far, he has been as happy as a little guy with an earache can be.  It is slowly getting better for him.  Hopefully it will be gone n time for our trip next week.  Of course it is to a lake.  Not just any lake. A lake without cell receptions or wifi for miles. Completely off. My little monster will not care as long as their is water and okra he will be happy.

Wild Berries and Honeysuckle

 A walk around the pond on a windy afternoon filled the air full of the sweet smell of honeysuckle.  A few of the trees are covered in their little blooms.  They grow wild all around the boarders of the wood line.  They grow into a thick cover on the ground for rabbits and make a tasty treat for deer.  Our deer have not returned this summer.  No signs of them any where.  For the past seven years there has been a female that would have a set of twins every Fall.  Hopefully this Fall she will be back with her little ones for a visit.

The frogs are out in full force annoying our little dog.  They have little tadpoles swimming around the edge of the pond.  We have only seen two turtles that made the pond their home last year after being newly hatched.  We also found a king snake hiding under one of the large rocks.  His skin finally shed and he made his way into the water just in time for dinner.

 A few bees were spotted along with multiple birds.  I have not seen a hummingbird at the pond this year, but we have plenty around our flowers and home.  Last week the baby birds from our little bird hotel made their first flights to the near by trees covered in honeysuckle.

I also captured a very blurry picture of a few wild berries just starting to grow.  One area on our walking trial is covered with these little guys.  It is also home to a huge rabbit with a fluffy white tail.  All the other rabbits have brown tails, so this fat little rabbit is easy to identify as he runs around the yard and through the trees.  Maybe this week I will finally decide on a new camera so I can capture the animals in better photos.
